Frequently asked questions

How does Birthday Star pick my star?

We take your birth year and find a real, catalogued star whose distance in light-years means its light set out toward Earth around the year you were born. Every star comes from the public HYG astronomical database.

AR Sky Mode isn’t tracking / the sky doesn’t move

AR needs motion and camera access. When you open AR, tap Enter AR sky and allow Motion & Orientation and Camera when prompted. If it still doesn’t track, tap the sky once to re-enable motion, or go to iOS Settings › Birthday Star and make sure Motion, Camera and Location are allowed. Then reopen AR.

Why is my star “below the horizon”?

Stars rise and set just like the Sun. If yours is below the horizon right now, the app will tell you — try again later in the night, and the guide arrow will point you the right way once it rises.

The background music stopped

Make sure your phone isn’t on silent and that Background music is enabled in the app’s Settings. Music pauses when you leave the app and resumes when you return.

How do I save or share a poster or video?

Open your star, then use Share, Save, or Export reveal video. When prompted, allow the app to add media to your Photos so it can save the file to your library.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your dates, names, and saved stars stay on your device and are never sold. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Does the app work offline?

Yes — the core experience, including your star and the sky map, works without an internet connection. Some optional map tiles may need a connection.
